The Schools Concert is the culmination of a creative project for local primary schools during which the children learn and/or devise a piece that they perform during the Festival. It has become an integral part of the festival with our goal being to involve, and in some cases, introduce primary-aged children to the joy of music-making of high quality.
The project is run in collaboration with St Paul’s School, St Paul’s Girls’ School and the Rodolfus Foundation. Workshops are run in the autumn term in each school, run by Mark Wilderspin, Director of Music at St Paul’s School and by Leigh O’Hara, Director of Music at St Paul’s Girls’ School. At these workshops, children have come up with music ideas based on Building Bridges. Their ideas have then been arranged by Mark Wilderspin into his new work Let’s Build a Bridge which is performed together by all the schools involved, along with other bridge-related pieces, at this final concert.
Building (or re-building) a bridge is currently a topic of great debate in Barnes and Hammersmith!
