Selections from 9 German Arias by Handel

Handel Violin Sonata in G Minor

Handel Violin Sonata in F Major

Vaughan Williams How Cold The Wind Doth Blow

Roxanna Panufnik Spring in Splendour  (premiere)

Join Davina and Mary for an evening centred around Handel’s 9 German Arias ahead of the launch of their latest album together. Composed between 1724 and 1726 with texts by librettist Barthold Heinrich Brockes, Handel’s cantata-style song cycle explores and celebrates the beauty and order of nature in minute detail. Nestled amongst these beautiful arias will be movements from Handel’s celebrated Opus 1 violin sonatas as well as works by Vaughan Williams and a world premiere by Roxanna Panufnik.

Praised by Opera for her “dramatic wit and vocal control”, British soprano Mary Bevan is internationally renowned in baroque, classical and contemporary repertoire and appears regularly with leading conductors, orchestras and ensembles around the world. She is the winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artist Award and was awarded the MBE in 2019.

Davina performs around the globe with the world’s most highly regarded period ensembles – The English Baroque Soloists, The Academy of Ancient Music, Arcangelo and The Sixteen. Her most recent engagements have included the BBC Proms this summer, recording her first solo Handel album and also European and USA tours of Beethoven, Handel and Berlioz. Last year, Davina was made an Associate of The Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for her outstanding contribution to the music industry.
