Howard Goodall Eternal Light Requiem
Our tenth season opens with Artistic Director, James Day, bringing together an evening of English music, past and present alongside festival favourite performers. The concert culminates with Festival Patron and Barnes resident, Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light Requiem. Goodall’s Eternal Light is a modern-day requiem composed in 2008 based on words from English poems of the last 500 years which reflects everlasting peace and light. The first half includes Vaughan Williams’ (who celebrates his 150th Anniversary) ever popular Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, preceded by the inspiration for this piece, Thomas Tallis’ Why fum’th in fight, and former Barnes resident and Director of Music at St Paul’s Girls’ School, Holst’s St Paul’s Suite.
